The Late Gus Frangos
Founding Board Member
The Ohio Land Bank Association is deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Gus Frangos, a well-known figure in the land bank community. His absence will be deeply felt, as his transformative leadership and unwavering commitment to revitalizing communities across Ohio have left an impact that will be felt for generations.
Gus served as the Cuyahoga Land Bank President and General Counsel since its inception in 2009. He was also a founding member and the first President of the Ohio Land Bank Association, leading the organization in securing much-needed funding for neighborhood revitalization and creating policies that have allowed Ohio’s land banks to thrive. Thanks to Gus, the unjust cycles of vacancy and abandonment that plagued Ohio’s neighborhoods have been broken. Gus was a steadfast advocate for public interest and community revitalization. His sudden passing leaves a void that words cannot fill, and he will be missed.
Gus’s visionary leadership has forever changed the landscape of Ohio’s communities. His work in drafting the land bank enabling legislation, Ohio’s House Bill 294 and Senate Bill 353, established the county land bank model we all know today His tireless efforts have turned Ohio’s land banking model into the national gold standard for land banking.
As we reflect on his life and contributions, we extend our deepest sympathies to his family. His work will continue to inspire all of us who believe in the power of community development. Let us honor Gus’s memory by continuing the work he so passionately believed in, ensuring that his legacy continues.
