Who Are We?

We're an Organized Voice for Ohio Land Banks
The Ohio Land Bank Association (OLBA) is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization with the purpose of
supporting the work of and advocating on behalf of all county land reutilization corporations, commonly
known as land banks, across Ohio. With 70 of Ohio’s 88 counties having land banks, a clear need
emerged for a statewide association to provide a collective, unified voice.

"How County Land Bank Legislation Changed the Game in Ohio" provides an insightful look into the transformative impact of Ohio's Senate Bill 353, enacted in response to the 2007 real estate crisis. This legislation empowered county land banks to effectively address issues of property vacancy and abandonment, leading to significant community revitalization across the state. The video features firsthand accounts from key stakeholders, including policymakers and community leaders, who discuss the challenges faced during the crisis and how the establishment of county land banks has facilitated the rehabilitation of distressed properties, thereby stabilizing neighborhoods and promoting economic development. This narrative underscores the critical role of targeted legislation in enabling local governments to manage and repurpose vacant properties, ultimately contributing to the renewal of communities throughout Ohio.
Take a look at the inspiring efforts of the Lucas County Land Bank showcased during their recent community update event. Their transformative work has left a tangible impact on the community, providing opportunities for a brighter future. As members of the Ohio Land Bank Association, we are proud to see such dedication and progress toward strengthening Ohio communities!

This tribute video was shown at the 14th Annual OLBA Conference to honor the life and legacy of Gus Frangos, a founding board member of OLBA and the architect of Ohio’s land bank movement. In recognition of his lifelong impact, we renamed our highest honor the Gus Frangos Lifetime Achievement Award—and posthumously presented it to him during the 2025 conference.
